The Brewers enjoyed an incredible run during the month of August and have mostly limped into September with a record of 3-4 to start the month. They owe much of their success over the past month and a half to their pitching staff, who mostly pitched brilliantly over that stretch. It's a good thing they did, too, because the Brewers offense has certainly felt the absence of Rickie Weeks.
The Crew activated Weeks from the disabled list yesterday and intend to ease him into action. He only recently began to run the bases, and he hasn't seen live pitching since his injury. Many of us hoped he'd be called on to pinch hit yesterday, and an opportunity presented itself in the sixth inning. Ron Roenicke instead called on Nyjer Morgan and later explained that he would prefer Weeks to see his first at bats in a less high leveraged situation. Still, it was great seeing Rickie back in uniform and ready to play, and it'll be a good day when he's able to slide back into the five spot and start at second base. The offense could use a boost.
